"Where am I? Who am I?" were the first words of the summoned entity, while the Holy Knights mourned their commander. This invocation possessed both the body and the name of the Archangel, but it had none of his glory and dedication. It was the usurper, summoned without knowing the details, to defend an uncertain future, without the power of Arcane himself. They stared at him, circling around, as one observes a wild beast in a cage. And as the man sought answers from those around him, the wings on his back began to twitch, contract, and then fall to the ground, detaching from the individual who felt a deep anguish. Turning to the sole presence in this grand hall, seeking comfort and explanation, he saw nothing but contempt and regrets.
"My brothers, let's silence our doubts. This is Celestial Arcane. Pay homage to his sacrifice and help him," said Aramis, who had been observing the scene silently.
- Aramis, look for yourself. Whoever he is, he is not one of us. The wings have fallen off him!
- She's right, Aramis. How can we accept his sacrifice if it's just a human replacing him?
- I agree with Alea. This world is heading to its doom, and all for a human?
Under the reprimands of his brothers and sisters, Aramis approached the man and placed his hand on his shoulder:
"I apologize for this situation. I understand your fear. You find yourself in an unknown place surrounded by unknown people. Do you remember anything?"
- I... Who... Where am I...
- Let me explain. You are in the sanctuary of the Holy Knights, in the human city of Asteria. Those you see, and myself, are the armed defenders of humanity. Our goal is to protect humanity and defeat the Demons that assail us.
- The city of Asteria...
- You must have many questions, and we will try to answer them. First, you were summoned through the soul of the Archangel, our commander, so that you could aid our kingdom. His name was Celestial Arcane. We will call you that.
- Summoned? Celestial Arcane?
- Does that name mean anything to you? Aramis wondered.
- No... I have no memory. I don't know who you are, who I am, where I am...
- It doesn't matter. We will take the time it needs. See for yourself in this mirror. You are human. The original wings of Celestial Arcane fell off when you woke up.
- You all have wings. You are great warriors.
- Yes, we are the Holy Knights. My brothers and sisters are at your disposal.
- They are staring at me.
- Understand them. We just witnessed the sacrifice of our commander to summon you. Only he knew the truth about you. We have to trust him, trust you, but it will take time. Do you understand?
- I understand. A stranger stands before you in the body of your commander.
- Maybe this will help you recover your memory. We know nothing about your origins, but there may be answers within you.
As Aramis approached his comrades to ask them to respect the words of the Archangel and support his sacrifice for a nobler cause, he imposed his command and asked everyone to follow his orders, just as they followed Arcane's earlier. While they teased together and raised their swords one above the other as an oath of allegiance, the summoned one started screaming, collapsing to the ground while holding his head and screaming in madness, begging for something to come out of his body and head.
Rushing to his side, the knights tried to lift him and find out what was happening, but a hurricane rose around Arcane, pushing the knights against the marble columns of the hall.
- Aramis! What's happening!
- Hold your positions! Do not attack!
- Elea! What are you doing! Stay in position! Aramis exclaimed under the continuous storm that pounded them.
- If Arcane has invoked Evil, it is our duty to annihilate it!
- Elea! No! We don't know what's happening! We know nothing about him!
Approaching Arcane, Elea raised her sword and prepared to stab him with the tip, but plunged into the gaze of her target, he looked back at her while a light petrified her in place. She was violently thrown back again, and the storm intensified like a tornado in the heart of the sanctuary.
When the storm subsided a few seconds later, a completely different scene played out before the astonished gaze of the knights.
In the heart of the mind, inaudible, the entity addresses the soul that inhabits it:
"So this is it, Celestial? Since you summoned me, it's up to me to accomplish our goal."
Standing before the Holy Knights, fully satisfied with the resurrection, he addressed the assembly with a deep voice and a slow rhythm, punctuated by his deep breaths:
- Holy Knights, my name is Arcane. Please excuse our friend Celestial's ignorance. Archangels cannot remember their past lives.
- You have wings again... Elea exclaimed, kneeling on the ground.
- Of course, Celestial was no longer one of you, so he lost them.
- Celestial? Aren't you Celestial Arcane, our Archangel? Aramis asked, not understanding the situation.
- Celestial Arcane? So that's what he called himself! Ah, that's amusing.
- What does that mean? Daïme asked.
- Wings and an invocation relic. Who are you? Aramis asked, stepping toward the unknown.
- Like Celestial, I am the Archangel Arcane. The realm of the Saints is now under the protection of another Archangel.
The Holy Knights were reassured that a new Archangel could have been summoned, but Aramis worried that this new commander bore the same name as Celestial Arcane, except for possessing an unknown Ring.
In the heart of the mind, inaudible, the entity addresses the souls that inhabits it:
"Thank you, Arcane, for hiding our twinned existence. I had forgotten what transfer amnesia was like. It must have shocked them."
"I didn't do it for you. Taking my name all this time, it was obvious they wouldn't leave me alone if they thought you were still somewhere. And if they believe I am an Archangel, just as you made them believe, they will obey."
"I promised you once that I knew where to find our Rings if you agreed to let me take over. "
"I suppose you failed, Celestial, or else I wouldn't be here."
"Not entirely. The answers to our questions are right here, between these realms. But I joined the camp of the Holy Knights to help me in this quest. Then we were overwhelmed by the constant attacks of the Demons. I couldn't advance in my research anymore. But I never had more than a quarter of your power."
"What do you expect from me exactly? Are you trying to prevent me from accomplishing what I've been sleeping for centuries? "
"No, Arcane, I summoned you because I love the people I protect, but I don't have the strength to protect them any longer. Would you accept to protect them in my place, protect them from the Evil that befalls here? "
